Conditioned roads, roads with holes, obstacles in the road, exposed roots, among others, are part of the day-to-day of the fleet's drivers. They know beforehand that bad tread conditions immediately affect tires, increasing maintenance costs and causing other problems in the vehicle. However, there are some practices that increase tire durability! Yes, you read well! 😏 The recommendations given in the Vehicle Manual must be ALWAYS adhered to since each car requires tires with different characteristics (bear the weight of the vehicle, transmit the force generated by the traction, dampen impacts and ensure the function of the brakes).
But what can you do to increase the FLEET TIRES DURABILITY? Stay tuned for our exclusive TIPS!
10 TIPS FOR INCREASING THE FLEET TIRES DURABILITY
#1 CHECK TIRES PRESSURE REGULARLY
To avoid wear on specific tire areas, you should check their pressure at least once a month or in a shorter time, depending on the kilometers and roads traveled.
#2 WHEN YOU NEED ROLL THE TIRES
Whenever you notice uneven tire wear or every 10.000 km, replace the tires position, the front tires with the rear tires, or vice versa. In this way, the wear will be distributed homogeneously by the 4 tires, rather than being unbalanced.
#3 CALIBER AND ALIGN THE WHEELS
Whenever you turn or replace the tires, you should calibrate and align the wheels, or if you feel some trepidation on the steering wheel while driving.
#4 HAVE A DEFENSIVE DRIVING
We all know that practicing irregular driving increases exponentially fuel consumption, as well as causing other problems in the vehicle. Abrupt accelerations, high-speed curves (the higher the speed, the shorter the tire life), among others, require much more of the tires, contributing to the reduction of their durability.
#5 GO AROUND OBSTACLES AND HOLES ON THE ROAD
Driving between obstacles or on roads with holes is not at all beneficial for the car, however, if you do not have another option, try to deviate from these carefully and if possible, slowly. But be aware that under a last-minute obstacle, it is safer to go over, than to try to deviate abruptly.
#6 RESPECT THE MEASURES
It is no coincidence that the Vehicle Manual indicates the minimum and maximum measures of the tires! If you respect them, you guarantee the better performance of your car and greater safety and stability.
#7 AVOID CHEMICAL OR ABRASIVE PRODUCTS CONTACT
Contact of tires with petroleum products, chemicals, or abrasives damages tire rubber and causes loss of their mechanical properties.
#8 OBEY VEHICLE LOAD LIMIT
If you exceed the defined load limit, in addition to being subject to a fine, it helps the tires to overheat or damage. Note that the distribution of loads must be correct and respected.
#9 NOTE THE TREAD WEAR INDICATOR (TWI)
The Tread Wear Indicator (TWI) shows the tread wear level of the tire, through the reliefs easily seen on the wheel. In this way, you will quickly know if the tire is still in good condition or should be replaced immediately.
#10 MAKE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
As the name implies, these reviews check the condition of the tires, shock absorbers, brakes, springs, bearings, wheels, and axles, avoiding corrective maintenance (whose costs are particularly onerous).
Take these measures and increase the durability of your FLEET TIRES! And remember, your drivers must have a safe and regular driving, avoiding holes, sudden accelerations, or other situations that cause problems in vehicles. Regular Tire Control will help you REDUCE COSTS with maintenance and TO DECREASE road accidents.
