In addition to REDUCING costs and MAXIMIZING the Fleet operational performance, the Fleet Manager has numerous IMPORTANT DECISIONS under its responsibility every day. Do you know what the 6 MAIN DECISIONS of a Fleet Manager are?

6 IMPORTANT DECISIONS OF THE FLEET MANAGER

#1 FLEET TYPE CHOICE

After a feasibility analysis (economic, technical and strategic), the Manager should choose the best fleet option for the company: OWN or CONTRACTED.

To be taken into account for the decision: Level of customer service, ROI, the intensity of use, type of service provided, advantages and disadvantages of both options.

#2 VEHICLES SELECTION

In view of the activity of your company, you must identify the mandatory requirements that vehicles must present, namely in terms of capacity, traction, engine, dimensions, technical assistance, and operational safety.

#3 DEFINITION OF THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES REQUIRED

To meet the needs of your company and its customers, how many cars do you need?! At this point, as a rule, Fleet Managers rely on their professional experience (or their employees) to make the decision.

#4 MANAGEMENT OF FLEET DEVALORIZATION

The kilometers traveled, the weather conditions, the type of road and driving, the age of the car and the own usufruct, are some of the factors that contribute to the wear of the cars. However, we remind you that you can extend the useful life of the vehicles by performing Preventive Maintenance.

#5 FLEET MAINTENANCE

As we told you in the last article, it is extremely important to carry out Preventive Maintenance (allow early identification of problems or anomalies in vehicles) and Operational (checks performed before, during and after the vehicle is moved), with the purpose of avoiding Corrective Maintenance (which represents higher expenses for the company).

#6 COST REDUCTION PLANNING AND STRATEGY

The implementation of Corrective Maintenance (instead of Preventive and Operational Maintenance), waste of materials, lack of time and task management, poorly calculated routes and random fuel consumption are factors that contribute to increased level of the Fleet Management and consequently of the company. These can be avoided by defining and implementing a Strategy and/ or Planning = Fleet Policy. That, in turn, allows standardization and optimization of all processes, encouraging the knowledge of the employees in the level of the measures to be applied.
